Question: Does the length of the string effect the number of swings that the pendulum can make in 10 seconds?
Observation: We used a washer, a ruler, scissors and tape.
Observation: We used a washer, a ruler, scissors and tape.
Hypothesis: When the string is longer it will swing slower (fewer swings).
Test: We swung a pendulum and we started the swing at 90 degrees. We counted how many swings it would do in ten seconds. We tested it 3 times, at 3 lengths.
Collect data: At 20.75 inches - 1: 7, 2: 6.5, 3: 6.5
10 inches - 1:9, 2:9, 3:10
4.5 inches - 1: 15, 2: 17, 3: 14
Results: Averages:
20.75 is 6.666666667
10 is 9.33333333
14. is 15.33333333
20.75 is 6.666666667
10 is 9.33333333
14. is 15.33333333
My hypothesis was right. The string is slower when it is longer.
