The American Revolutionary War
Samuel Collier was one of the first colonists in Jamestown. At the beginning of the book Blood on the River, he was a person that thought only about himself to survive, but by the end he was an experienced colonist that learned to work with others. When he lived in England his mom died so he had to live in an orphanage and then he lived on the street. He stole his moms locket from a pawn shop after she died and was sent to be an indentured servant for John Smith on the boat to Jamestown. He got into a fight with a boy named Richard and John Smith put him in a jail cell for a night. This taught him that he needed to be a part of a team. When they got to Jamestown in 1607, John Smith taught him to survive as a colonist. Samuel learned how to make a bow, and learned how to speak Algonquian. Although he was all about fighting at the beginning, he ended up as a kind and free man.
